Challenge:
VAS “Latvijas Autoceļu Uzturētājs” is a strategic state-owned road infrastructure maintenance company that handles the daily maintenance of roads and streets, and produces construction materials. The company handles more than 700 vehicles, 500 units of tractor machinery, and various special equipment.
To keep track of the large fleet and various operations all around Latvia, the company required a detailed analysis of Equipment, Worksheets and Materials using data from their internal system.
On top of the standard report types, the customer needed a customised map chart showing data by Latvian road network regions.
The data from the company’s internal system had to be analysed together with the standard stock data kept in HW SERP, but with some customer specific nuances – Sock depreciations had to be analysed in context of Contracts.
As the company is state-owned, all of the user interface had to be localised in Latvian language, and the resulting reports had to be embedded in the company’s internal system.
Also, the company required a possibility to customise the format of data export to .xls file.
Journey
To fulfil all of the customer’s requirements, the development was split into three stages.
A fully customised flex.bi Enterprise version was created, to provide complete user interface localisation, including the translations of data structures, cubes, dimensions and measures. Customer specific Stock Depreciations cube adjustments were made, to import additional data from the SERP Contracts module. Also the .xls file export was customised, allowing to set a particular export template for each report, so that the results were exported exactly in the required format. Also a custom map chart was created, to display the regions of Latvian road network.
In order to provide equipment and worksheet analytics using data from the customer’s internal system, an intermediate SQL database was built for initial data aggregation and normalisation before importing it into flex.bi. Multiple SQL applications were created in flex.bi, to fetch the pre-processed data from the intermediate SQL database and build the necessary cubes for analysis.
To accomplish full analytics integration in the customer’s internal system, the necessary reports were embedded in the customer’s system, providing live overview of the operational processes without the need to switch to another platform.
Result
As a result, a fully customised, localised and integrated analytics solution was delivered, providing data both from HW SERP and the customer’s internal system. The reports are available in flex.bi interface, customer’s system interface and also as customisable .xls exports, and the report data can be viewed in a custom Latvian road network region map chart. All of the analytics content is shown in Latvian, to both comply with the state requirements and make it more user friendly for the Latvian speaking team.
